Dr. Paulo Mesquita, a 2022 NSCA Foundation Graduate Research grant recipient, recently completed his PhD in kinesiology at Auburn University, where he focused on investigating mitochondrial adaptations to resistance training. Currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Aging and Metabolism Research program at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Dr. Mesquita's main research interests revolve around the physiology of aging and exercise, with a specific focus on mitochondrial adaptations. His work involves using animal models to study various cell types and their responses to aging and exercise, aiming to understand the molecular aspects of these processes. For those interested in his field, Dr. Mesquita recommends journals like the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and the Journal of Applied Physiology. You can follow him on Twitter (@PHD_Mesquita) and find his publications on ResearchGate and Google Scholar.
